Moscow Modern style
With the time the logic of Moscow city building up was
changing. Previously it was based on the system of fortification
and comfortable location of houses and trade places. XXth
century brought new rules and ideas into the architectural
thought. Moscow was growing fast and there was no place
for nature in the city anymore. Buildings were growing here
and there. Architects who worked in modern style decided
to reconcile nature and city by using the irregular shapes
and unproportional forms, like nature had. This architectural
style combined architecture itself and fine arts, which
was a very innovative idea.
The facades of buildings were decorated with pictures on
herbal theme and windows with stained-glass. They placed
windows on different levels making it difficult to figure
out how many floors there are in the house. They found a
new solution for those who wanted an unusual house and didn’t
want a palace in classical style anymore. Coming from France
as art nouveau, Modern Style became very popular in Moscow
in the beginning of XXth century among reach people. In
this tour you’ll see masterpieces of famous Modern architects,
working in Russia – Feudor Shehtel, Lev Kekushev, Valkot.
You’ll have a chance to visit one of the most famous modern
style buildings and see its unusual interior.
